Wendy Bowman - "Nocturnal" - Exhibition Opening

Nocturnal is Wendy Bowman’s investigation into the life that sparks as the sun sets and the city goes digital. Bowman’s photographs confront the layers of perception through a synthesis of the natural and artificial. The subjects in her photographs are often isolated —their essences both accented and undercut by their context. Her subjects are caught at night illuminated only by the synthetic light of the city. The fragmented composition and vivid color in her photographs evoke intrigue with everyday artifacts and people that would otherwise be overlooked as ordinary.

The show will be on view from September 1 - 30.

An official Fotoseptiembre exhibition.

When Love Ends, Be The Water - Book Release & Art Exhibition

To celebrate the release of the new book, When Love Ends, Be The Water, Mercury Project is hosting a collaborative exhibit of the works of poet, Rene Villanueva, and artist, Rikkianne Van Kirk; each using their minimalist mediums of poetry and illustration to tell a true story of love, discovery and cultural identity in South Texas. Through a reading of selected works and a chance to see the 15 original illustrations created for the book, the audience will be able to explore how each medium transformed the story and their relation to it. San Antonio's Poet Laureate, Octavio Quintanilla, will provide an introduction to the night, while beer sampling will be provided by Alamo Beer. A Q&A and curated DJ set by Idyll Green will follow the reading. If you are looking for art that speaks from real experience and deals with the here and now, this is the perfect can't-miss night.

SKINS featuring Elizabeth Carrington

Elizabeth Carrington's new works resonate with power and movement. The paintings conjure up the passage of time represented by candy colored cakes and icons, heroic swords and kingly rings. The possibility of peace and happiness are woven through her paintings as unexpected bold graffiti images. Contradictory commands of "say anything " and "shut up" might present a commentary on current world affairs but are left for individual interpretation.
